The Sciatic Nerve is the longest nerve in the whole body. Nerve roots from multiple levels of the low back come together to travel down the leg and supply information like movement and pain to and from the brain. Many patients use the word “sciatica” generally, but it technically refers to a set of symptoms not a cause of back pain or leg pain. Sciatica symptoms include tingling, burning, numbness, weakness, and/or pain traveling (radiating) from the back and down the leg.
Sciatica, or traveling leg pain, is often caused by deconditioning and degeneration of the spine and its supporting structures that build up from years of micro-injury and sometimes from acute trauma. Oftentimes an event like sneezing, bending down, or lifting is enough of a factor to “break the camel’s back” and cause symptoms of the underlying condition.
Dr. Jolene Kuty is a Doctor of Chiropractic specifically trained in diagnosing and treating the spine and causes of sciatica. At Kuty Chiropractic, we do special neuromuscular and orthopedic tests to differentiate the different types of low back pain. Often additional imaging is not required. Chiropractic care involves conservative care of the body. Your treatment will include chiropractic adjustments to your vertebra, soft tissue treatment of your muscles, plus strengthening and stretching exercises. We look to find the causes of your specific condition depending on your activities, work, and history and give you the tools to help you stay healthy for the future.
If you are looking for individualized care for the treatment of sciatica, look no further. Call today and set up your appointment.
