- Take a Hike
We live in such a beautiful area. There are great hikes for families that are not too challenging. Try the path at the end of 40th street as you go south from Shea (start on your left, and make a loop to the right). Another family hike is at McDowell Mountain Preserve, there’s a trail head on Bell just east of Thompson Parkway. Get lost there and find your way back to the car. You can see wildlife, get some exercise, spend quality time together, talk about getting enough water for your body… the ideas are limitless. - Can the Soda
Decide as a family to give up drinking soda. It’s loaded with sugar, coloring, preservatives, acids, chemicals, and gases. Experiment with taking a rusted nail and letting it sit in Coke or Pepsi… it’ll dissolve! Or put a piece of steak in coke or Pepsi and watch it dissolve in days! What do you think it does inside your body? Make fruit smoothies and decorate water glasses with paint on clear glasses or make your own straws. - Unplug the TV
4 out of 10 children are either overweight or obese! One night a week, end the couch potato tendency by unplugging the TV. Take a walk. Play a board game. Talk as a family. One time a week, make this a great get healthy routine. - Invite Friends over for a Healthy Dinner
What better way to spend time than with friends and family. Cut up veggies and let the kids put together the salads. Make your own salad dressing! Learn about natural ingredients. - Dance and Play
When at a loss for what to do just turn on your favorite music and dance, uninhibited. Kids do it all the time, you can too! Let your body just move. Laugh together and have fun.
